Oh the things Miles says

Proud of his Easter eggs!

Here's a few of them:
"I'll be right back!" ... leaves room to get a toy... "Miles is back!"

"What?" when we call his name from another room.

Jared got a spider for me on the wall with a shoe. For the next half hour Miles kept saying "Daddy hit spider!  Big boom! Spider on the wall! Big boom!"

"I don't wanna!"

"Bless you" when someone sneezes or coughs.

"I can't get it!"

Miles, look at the dog. "Brown dog!" He loves describing the color of everything.

"Thank you!" and "Welcome!"

"Give it."

"Big one!" or "Little one!"

"I want to have it."

"Mine!" ... "Yours."

"Want to hold it."

"Hi!" and "Bye"

"I got it!" and "I did it!"

"My turn, your turn."

"That's funny."

22 months

Miles has learned so much in the last month. He speaks in sentences most of the time. It's definitely easier for me to understand him than anybody else, but he's getting there. He loves reading books to us by telling us what is happening in the pictures. Miles says "I want" this or that, and "uh huh" or "na uh" for yes/no. He enjoys telling me what to do - and if I'm not listening right away he grabs my hand to show me what he wants. He loves coloring, painting, and drawing on my whiteboard. His favorite toys right now are cars and balls. He says "cheese" when I hold up the camera. Miles also picks out his own clothes. One day he decided to wear his striped fleece, hat, and slippers. Great outfit!

Miles loves his Simon. He figured out Simon has pink pads on the bottom of his feet (Simon's "pink toes"). He was playing with Simon in this video and saw a baby on tv...

He enjoys reading his color book. I didn't catch it on the video, but at one point he kept pushing the button and saying the same color over and over. It was hilarious!

Here's a video of a typical day with Miles. He is a busy boy!

Potty

Miles pooped on his potty chair! During his bath tonight he started to look like he was ready to poop in the tub. I told him we don't poop in the tub, but we can poop in the potty. His response to everything right now is "NO," but he agreed to sit on the potty when I offered him a treat (an M&M). He sat on the potty and Jared held his hands. We weren't sure he did anything, but when he stood up, we saw it. We'll see if this is the start of potty training or just a fluke. Miles was so excited that he got a few M&Ms for his treat!

Miles and I were sick this weekend and Jared got a picture of us napping on the couch.

He's getting pretty good at saying his own name.

Miles decided it would be fun to climb (and stand) on the rocking chair. Yikes!

We went to the new Buffalo Wild Wings in Federal Way for supper last week. Being a new restaurant, everything took a little longer than we hoped. And they were out of crayons, so the hostess gave Miles a plain kids menu to "read." No worries, Miles passed time by drinking ranch dressing. He was beyond ready to go by the time we got the check, so he threw his first tantrum in public. So fun. But one of the waitresses rescued us by giving Miles stickers for his cheeks. He was instantly happy and we left without a huge issue.

As we were tearing down the Christmas decorations, Miles had to play with his tree one more time. He had a lot of fun pointing the star to me, the ceiling, lights, and tv. He thought it was hilarious to poke the tree up the basketball hoop. The star got stuck in the net, but Miles fixed it.

Happy New Year!

We had a busy Christmas vacation. Miles spent a lot of time with his friends, opened a lot of great presents, and celebrated the new year with us at home.

Miles enjoyed decorating cookies on Christmas Eve with friends. They all thought it was hilarious to climb in the dog kennel. He opened Christmas presents on Christmas day, quickly figuring out what to do. He made sure to hand us every tiny scrap of paper he tore from the presents so we could put the paper in the trash. His big gift from us was a rocking puppy like the one he loves at the gym.

We went to Zoo Lights at Point Defiance Zoo on Christmas. It's basically a huge display of lights at the zoo. Most of the animal exhibits were blocked off, but we did get to see the aquarium and baby tigers.

On New Year's Eve, we had a play date at the Children's Museum in Tacoma. Miles loved playing at the water tables. He made a shaker with an empty water bottle, rice, beans, and paper. He climbed and explored the indoor playground equipment and loved watching the balls go through the air tubing (similar to the bank drive-up). We celebrated New Year's Eve at home with Miles. I can't believe how much he has grown this year!

Miles is learning his colors, and is very consistent with naming everything that is blue and green, and is fairly consistent with orange. He can find colors when we ask including red, yellow, purple, pink, white, and black. He loves counting everything, but usually skips the number 5 when he's counting quickly. He loves coloring and painting, building towers with blocks (and knocking them over), making baskets in his basketball hoop, and helping with chores.

Miles really wanted to play peek-a-boo in this video:

Here's another video of Miles playing:

Cookies and Santa

Miles helped make cookies this weekend for me to bring to work. He enjoyed beating eggs, pouring them into the mixing bowl, watching the ingredients spin around in the KitchenAid mixer, and using cookie cutters. He also helped me mix the icing and spread icing on a cookie for himself.

Santa visited the toddler gym this week, so Jared took a few pictures. Unlike most children his age, Miles wasn't afraid of Santa this year. They were selling pictures for only $2 each, so Jared got a picture on Monday and Wednesday at the gym.

One of my preschool classrooms had a craft day this week and Miles was invited to join in the fun. He made a snowman magnet, a few ornaments, snowman picture, and decorated a bag to carry everything. He did really well considering it was definitely nap time by the end of the hour of crafts.

Miles loves yogurt (and spoons). A few of his favorite foods at the moment include cheese sticks and bananas. He also loves stealing my oatmeal in the morning for breakfast. Miles had a growth spurt last week: his breakfast every day included 2 bananas, a cheese stick, and several huge scoops of my oatmeal. He would eat huge meals the rest of the day too, such as an entire 6-inch Subway sandwich in one sitting. I'm afraid of what will happen when he's a teenager!

Miles's vocabulary is growing so fast. He consistently (and correctly) uses the word "too." He's starting to count - so far it's 1, 2, 3, 4, 6. He'll add 5 in there occasionally. I was counting scoops of flour for the cookies and he said the next number while I was scooping, all the way up to 10. He knows his name and calls himself "Miles." He loves taking turns and says "my turn," "your turn," "mama's turn," "daddy's turn," etc. He describes EVERYTHING he does as he's doing it. Miles is jumping. Miles is running. Miles is spinning. Miles is throwing. Miles is pooping.... and so on. He repeats everything we say too. Tons of fun!

He's still very adventurous. He loves climbing, running, jumping, and moving nonstop from the moment he wakes up until the moment he goes to sleep. He also loves reading books, coloring, stacking blocks, and building towers with his mega blocks.

I haven't uploaded many videos lately...

Miles loves our Christmas tree.

He wanted to hold the camera too.

Here's a video of Miles saying "mama do it" when we were playing ring around the rosie.

Halloween

Now that I've figured out how to share pictures on this blog, I have some catching up to do. These are the pictures of Miles on Halloween. He loved trick-or-treating. We went to the Super Mall in Auburn and then walked around our old townhome complex. He got so much candy!

Here's a picture of Miles and I crossing the finish line during the 5k we ran the weekend before Halloween. (Freaky 5k at the Federal Way community center)

Christmas tree and singing

Miles helped decorate the Christmas tree tonight. He tried so hard to hang the ornaments on the tree. He even put the angel on top after I lifted him up. His favorite thing to do is tap the ornaments and count them around the tree. He can count to 3 and sometimes up to 5, though he's not very consistent yet. It is so adorable. Click here for my attempt to share the Christmas tree album.

Jared takes Miles to story time at the library every week, and Miles's new favorite thing about story time is ring around the rosie. He grabbed my hands and told me to get up the other day. I couldn't quite figure out what he was saying right away, but then he wanted me to spin in a circle with him. I finally figured it out - he wanted to do ring around the rosie! Here's a video of Miles singing after a few rounds of us spinning together. As you can tell, he's a little dizzy.

19 months

Miles is 19 months! He's wearing 24 month/2T clothes and size 7 shoes. Here are a few of his new tricks:
- talking in sentences of 3-5 words
- jumping down from the couch or anything else he can climb
- climbing up chairs to get on the table or counter
- helping me cook by mixing ingredients
- telling us everything he wants, needs, and all of his opinions
- eating whole foods by himself

Blogger has decided that I have uploaded too many pictures, so I will be creating a new blog for pictures. Stay tuned for details.

Pumpkin carving

We carved Miles's pumpkin today. He loved helping dig the pulp out of the pumpkin. He did get bored when he had to stay out of the way of the knife, so he left to play until I was done.

Miles and I ran a 5k yesterday for Halloween. He enjoyed the pouring rain, and I loved the run. We finished 2nd for my age group in 26:40. I think I would have won my age group if I wasn't pushing the stroller, but it was more fun to run with Miles! Not the best quality pictures - I forgot the camera at home so we had to use my phone. They will be emailing the race pictures sometime this week, so I'll post that later.

We caught Miles giving Kitty loves. It was so adorable, and she finally didn't run away from him.

Miles practiced drinking from a "big boy" cup and spilled a bit so I was cleaning it up with a paper towel using my foot. He wanted to clean up too.

18 months!

               Miles is
                       18 months old
                                       32 1/4 inches tall
and weighs 25 lb 13.5 oz.

We attempted bear pictures, but he didn't stay in the same place long enough to look at the camera.

Miles loves his sweater from Great Aunt Linda

He's getting more adventurous climbing the cat tree. One of these days he'll be sitting on top.
